Senators Shelby and Sessions Vote Against Collective Bargaining Rights - TSO

Click here to tell Senators Shelby and Sessions voting against federal employees in inexcusable.

To All Local Unions,

Despite intensive lobbying from AFGE members, on March 6 and March 7, Senators Shelby and Sessions voted against giving collective bargaining rights to Transportation Security Officers (TSOs). Senators Shelby and Sessions stated their opposition to this provision lies in the fact that TSOs would be able to strike if granted collective bargaining rights. Senators Shelby and Sessions should know better – federal employees are already legally barred from striking.

Everyday union members patrol and protect this nation’s borders, protect United States senators and representatives and perform other vital tasks that keep our country safe and secure. A union contract has never prohibited these union members from protecting this country and responding in times of need. Any suggestion that a union contract would inhibit TSOs from responding to a national emergency is an insult to them and the union members in the federal workforce.
