To AMCOM Bargaining Unit Employees Only |
|
On June 11, 2008, the Union was notified that AMCOM will be rescinding AMCOM Policy 690-12 (Merit Promotion and Related Placements). If this is done, AMCOM will no longer be required to canvass for any detail, temporary promotion or lateral reassignment. Management will have the ability to select anybody they choose without a governing process and with no accountability (paper trail) whatsoever. The Union was told that due to hiring competitions with other agencies on Redstone Arsenal, today and in the future, the restrictive language of AMCOM Policy 690-12 needed to be rescinded. Canvassing for details of more than 30 days, temporary promotions and lateral reassignments came as a result of a study conducted at AMCOM several years ago. The purpose for instituting the canvass process was to build confidence and integrity into a system of selection that was perceived to be wrought with favoritism and pre-selection. While not perfect, for the most part, the Union believes that most employees have more confidence in the process with the canvassing as a requirement, but we want to know what you think. We have until June 25, 2008 to present any arguments or proposals for negotiations. Given that, we want to know what you, the affected employees, want us to do. Do you want us to fight to keep the canvass process or do you want us to just let it go? You can call us at 876-4880 or email us at afge-user@redstone.army.mil to give us your opinion.
